Who We Are
We are glad you found us on the website today. We are small congregation in Onancock where we are fully engaged in the community through mission, ministry and fellowship. If you are seeking a church home, we invite you to join in the fellowship and ministry of this congregation. We look forward to meeting you. Please feel free to contact us through our contact page.
We are the CHURCH of Jesus Christ.
Jesus called us His “Ecclesia”. We are members of the Body of Christ throughout the world.
We are PRESBYTERIAN.
Presbyterian is a reformed denomination. We are a representative form of government. “Presbyteros” is a New Testament word meaning “elder” and refers to the custom of choosing spiritual leaders from among the members of the church. The Naomi Makemie Church is a member of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.). We are in ministry and cooperation with many other Presbyterian Churches who are members of the Presbytery of Eastern Virginia. We also seek to work ecumenically for the good of the community.
What We Believe
We believe the good news of the gospel. We believe the triune God-Father, Son, and Holy Spirit-creates, redeems, sustains, rules, and transforms all things and all people. We believe that in life and death we belong to God. We trust in Jesus Christ fully human, fully God who gave his life so that we might have life abundant, full of grace and mercy. In Christ our salvation is sure and by the Holy Spirit we are sustained and made wholeheartedly willing and ready to live for Christ. We believe God has put all things under the Lordship of Jesus Christ and has made Christ Head of the Church, which is his body. The Church's life and mission are a joyful participation in Christ's ongoing life and work.
